Next Step Video

ONLINE VIDEO: The Next Step

This 19-minute video from the Texas Developmental Disability Council presents personal stories from five Texans with disabilities who enrolled in colleges, universities or technical schools. The video is well-produced – fun and engaging. It gives first-hand observations of the higher education experience for people with disabilities. This one takes a long time to load. Be patient. It is well-worth the wait.

Randy Lewis on NBC NewsEMPLOYER PROFILE: 40% of Employees have Disabilities at new Walgreens facility

Last summer, we published an interview with Walgreens Vice President Randy Lewis. Randy outlined their plans for a new distribution center in South Carolina that would target recruiting efforts on people with disabilities. The center has since opened. With 40% of its workforce comprised of employees with disabilities, it now boasts the highest productivity of any of Walgreens distribution centers. It caught the attention of NBC News who aired a story about it earlier this month. Be sure to read the story and watch the two videos!

VSA arts logoWEBSITE: Artists with Disabilities

VSA arts is an international, nonprofit organization founded in 1974 by Ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith to create a society where all people with disabilities learn through, participate in and enjoy the arts. Their website includes a registry of artists (visual, performing, literary) with disabilities. Well worth a visit!

Office of Disability Employment PolicyONLINE VIDEO: How to Improve ROI: Employment Solutions for Small Business

The U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy has produced a new online video for small employers. This 10-minute video features interviews with three businesses that have benefited from their experiences in employing people with disabilities. Positive Vibe Café, Getloaded.com, and TecAccess represent three very different business sectors, yet they all assert that employing people with disabilities has brought them a high return on their investment.

I'm Tyler

ONLINE VIDEO: I’m Tyler (don’t be surprised)

“Ability Awareness”, as this video is described is a nice alternative to the “Disability Awareness” phrase that is used so often. Equally refreshing is the approach and the content of this innovative little film. (11 minutes)
