PROGRAM
OVERVIEW
No one wants to fail at a new
job. Everyone wants to succeed. In fact, beyond just retaining a job,
who doesn’t want to "shine" as a new employee? Employers hire new
employees hoping that they will more than "survive" the job - they want
them to excel and thrive! Employment agencies don't just want to just
"place" people in jobs; they want them to become rooted - to develop new
skills and to successfully meet new challenges. What factors determine
whether a new employee succeeds or fails? What kinds of supports can
increase their chances of success?
30 Ways
to Shine as a New Employee is a compelling new approach to
job retention! This two-day seminar is based on Denise Bissonnette’s
celebrated guide to job retention, 30 Ways to Shine as a New Employee.
This book, intended especially for new employees, is the key to the 30
Ways to Shine program. Using it as the basis for mentoring or other
supportive services, employers and/or placement agencies can monitor the
progress of new employees and help them to successfully deal with the
challenges of their new jobs and workplaces.
30 Ways
to Shine as a New Employee is a program for job success that
can be used by employers or employment agencies to support the new
employee in his/her new job. Used effectively, its comprehensive
approach can heighten the productivity, success and job satisfaction of
new employees. Focusing on the critical first 6 to 12 weeks of
employment, it addresses 30 key skills in areas such as:
-
Adapting to the company
culture.
-
Going the extra mile for the
employer.
-
Shining in the eyes of the
customer.
-
Being a great team player.
-
Responding well to
constructive feedback.
-
Getting the most from your
job experience.
-
Balancing life and work.
-
Handling negative emotions at
work
-
Surviving Office Politics
In this seminar, Denise will lead
participants through a step-by-step examination of these 30 key skills
and the accompanying "Challenge of the Day" - practical and engaging
activities that enable the new employee to put these skills into action
on the job.
Employers can effectively
use this program to improve new employee retention - particularly for
employees who are entering the workforce for the first time. It can
serve as the basis for an entirely new company program, or it can
effectively supplement and enhance your existing Orientation and
Mentoring programs. (For some further suggestions on how employers can
implement the program, click here.)
Employment Agencies can
use this program to deliver outstanding pre- and post-placement support
to new employees and to distinguish their services within the business
community. It can be an effective addition to pre-placement job clubs or
post-placement support groups. (For some suggestions on how employment
agencies can implement the program as pre-employment training, click
here or as post-placement support, click here.)
30 Ways
to Shine as a New Employee will give you tools to provide
outstanding support and guidance to new employees - to ease their
transition into the workplace and to enhance their ability to be
productive and effective from the start! This innovative retention
program will enable you to proactively anticipate problems before they
arise and give you a systematic way to ensure the new employee's
success!

FEEDBACK
"I utilized it
(30 Ways to Shine) as a management tool to coach employees, as a
self-assessment/personal growth tool, and more importantly as a tool to
coach and motivate TANF and post TANF participants on their journey to
self-sufficiency. I must seem as though I am on a soap-box, but I can't
tell you enough how impressed I have been and continue to be with your
materials."
"The relevancy
was amazing - this workshop is based in the ‘real world of work’, not
what we idealize."
"I am looking
forward to implementing this program with new employees...and with
current employees - to assure ongoing communication and team-building
skills!"
"This is the
missing piece! I will be able to serve our populations with powerful
information that could change their lives."
"As an
employer, I am pleased to have ready-made tools to improve retention of
our employees with disabilities and Native Americans. Come with an open
mind and be prepared to change and grow!"
"Many of us,
such as myself, were energized to apply the principles to our own
situations. I believe the philosophy and guidelines are of utmost help
in regenerating enthusiasm and morale and striving for excellence in
just about any situation we find ourselves in."
